NOVA is a high resolution raster image font in which each glyph is systematically collaged from a series of pencil drawings.¹ The font was developed as a core element of the anonymous neuroscience activism project, Neurovague. NOVA is the _voice_ of Neurovague. As a character it is not _personified_ but _objectified_. It embodies the messages it delivers: every piece of language presented in this typeface _knows it is in NOVA. [1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9]

The origins of NOVA’s forms cannot be accurately recalled. There is a faint memory: a basement workspace, interconnected rooms, and a scanning device attempting to capture the glimmering surface of a compact disc. The fragmentary results of this process were reassembled in drawings. [10] A second enlightening event occurred at the bevelled edges of a mirror, but scattered out beyond the scope of a smartphone camera. These are distorted recollections and reflections, at best. [11] Some latent image emerges from these various tracks of light, however, describing a body like the Silver Surfer,² observing the universe from a distant point, far from earth.
